Also, known commonly as Jacob's Ladder because the leaves are perfectly set across from each other; resembling ladder rungs.  This cultivar of the US native, Polemonium reptans, has brilliant variegation and a strong performance.  The variegated leaves take on pink hues during the cooler months of the year and blue cupped flowers are borne from April through June.  In cooler areas of the US the bloom period will last much longer.  Once the bloom period is over the foliage remains attractive for a while before dying back in the fall.  A great companion to heuchera and hosta.  Plant en masse, in containers, or within the mixed border.  This is definitely a shade plant as the leaves will scorch in full sunlight.  Deer don't normally bother this plant but being browsers, they may sample them.
Mature Plant Size:  18" Tall, 14" Spread
Bloom Time: April - June
Light Exposure: Partial Shade - Full Shade
Soil Type/pH: Well-drained/6.0-7.5

Finally made Homer click for me
Format: Paperback
I’ve tried reading The Iliad and The Odyssey before but always got lost in the language. This translation is clear and smooth while keeping the epic feel of the stories. It helped me actually enjoy the characters and battles without feeling like I was stuck in a high school assignment. It’s made these classics feel alive and human, and I’m glad I gave it another try with this version.

Epic tales that still resonate
Format: Paperback
I dove into Dawson’s twin translation of The Iliad and The Odyssey hoping for clarity—and instead found myself struck by their emotional pull. Achilles’ fury, Hector’s honor, Odysseus’ longing for home—it all felt immediate and real. Dawson’s language flows so naturally, I forgot I was reading an ancient text. There were moments I stopped and sighed, moved by how these characters still speak to our hearts today.

I’ve been taking my time with this, and it’s been surprisingly relaxing to read on slow mornings. It feels clear and easy to follow, which makes these stories feel alive instead of like homework. Glad I gave it a try.

Timeless adventure, beautifully retold
Format: Paperback
I started with The Iliad, expecting a dry history lesson, and ended up caught in the drama of gods and men. Then The Odyssey stole my evenings—each chapter like an invitation back into wonder. Superb translation.

Feels like sitting around a fire
Format: Paperback
I didn’t think I’d ever get through these stories, but this translation made it feel like someone was telling them to me, not lecturing. The battles in The Iliad felt sharp and real, and the long journey in The Odyssey pulled me in without getting lost in heavy words. I finished both feeling like I finally understood why these stories mattered, and they left me thinking about courage, anger, and coming home in a new way.
